Text Box: Working Dog Title
Text Box: I hope everyone had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a big year with the show circuit.
As many of you know Joe and I purchased the APBA from Darren and Kristy in September 2008. We have tried to reach out to new competitors and some of the first folks we competed with in the very beginning.
I have a ton of new ideas but this year we will be trying hard to perfect the things we already have going. Weight pull, conformation and treadmill racing.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few people who have already Text Box: committed to hanging with us for the next year. First and foremost Darren and Kristy, without them Joe and I would not have the success we have today with our dogs. Also, our lives would be much more mundane, without their friendship.
I appreciate and value our new friends Michael and Monica Wright if you haven’t met them, try to find them at the next show, they are truly awesome people. Michael and Monica have agreed to keep up with the raffle/door prizes and concessions when necessary.
Rob Herndon agreed from day 1 to stick with me and make sure the weight pulls Text Box: were glitch free, and that we always had a track and weight. I am so appreciative of him.
It is hard to find people that are true friends so I realize how lucky I am!
I hope you continue to compete with us in 2009, we look forward to seeing you all.
Text Box: We are introducing a new title this year, with three degrees. The Alliance Working Dog, Exceptional Working Dog and Ultimate Working Dog.
The Alliance Working Dog Title will be awarded to any Text Box: dog that has points in at least two sanctioned events. There is no maximum number of points required, therefore; if your dog has placed in weight pull, treadmill racing and/or conformation then your dog will receive this title.
Text Box: For example your dog has 3 points in TR and 21 in conformation.
The Ultimate Working dog title will be awarded to any dog that has 100 points in one of the sanctioned events and at least 50 points in one (continued on page 3)
Text Box: Thanks to friends

Text Box: The Pit of Information

We are planning a     Nationals in Cherokee NC this June, I need input from folks on how they would like it to be set up. Weight pull and show on both days or weight Pull on one day Show on the next, etc. Please let me know your ideas and suggestions.

Text Box: dog at a healthy weight, so not too skinny but not fat either.
Take for instance this photo of Sky, you can see that she is a very healthy weight. I hope this will encourage some of the folks with dogs who in the past would normally be better suited for a UKC show to come out and compete with us, the standard is the same for either style of dog.

Text Box: I would like to have three shows on a Saturday in March, we would bring the treadmill for those wanting to try for the AWD title but there would be no weight pull. This would allow us to focus all of the attention that day on conformation dogs. If you like this idea please contact me and lets discuss options for venues.

Text Box: Since September of 2008 we have been trying hard to get new people involved and to touch base with some of the first people who showed and competed with us. Overall the registry is growing , however, the conformation side is not as good as it has been.
One of the big changes that I am implementing for 2009 is to change the APBA conformation standard. To briefly give you an idea of the changes, the standard will be for a “healthy weight”. So if you have the game bred dogs, you no longer have to worry about show weight versus chain weight. If you are an owner of a dog that is heavier bred then you do not have to hear a judge tell you to drop weight off of your dog. Remember though, some of the bulliest dogs are only that way because they are overfed; you must have your Text Box: Changes in Conformation
Text Box: *Points for all dogs registered with the APBA will be posted on the website, I will also have copies to pass out at the next few shows.

*The next WP will be in Statesville at the Southern States on February 28 and March 1, this will be a weight pull and treadmill race only.

*There will be 3 shows and a treadmill race on March 28th at the Ellendale Community Center

*The new Working Dog Title has been issued to 22 dogs so far, if you need clarification on this title you may pick up a copy at the next few shows, I will also be posting to the website.

* We need venues, if anyone has any ideas or if you want to host a show or weight pull please contact Joe or I.

Our newest WP Pro Blevin’s Pearl Handled Revolver of MGK

Text Box: other or 50 combined points in the other two remaining events.
For example your dog has 100 points in WP, 10 in conformation and 40 in treadmill, or 100 in conformation and 50pts in treadmill.
The Exceptional Working Dog title will be awarded to any dog that has 100 points in at least two sanctioned events. This title will also come with a plaque and a cash prize. Cash prizes and plaques will be awarded twice a year.
The APBA reserves the right to change or modify the rules concerning the Working Dog title however this program will not be subject to change before January 2010. At that time requirements could change and cash prizes could increase.
Text Box: It was a year of Goodbye’s and Hello’s
For those of you who knew Sherm we lost him in June, and as I sit here typing this my eyes are full of tears. Although, I could never replace him we raised a litter of his grandchildren, So we now have FPK’s Not So Serious who gives us just a small part of him back.

Text Box: The last weight pull in 2008 was a great success, we had our first Pro class competition and had 4 new dogs on the track.
The folks at Southern States spent the previous day making space for us and rearranging their store so that we would have everything we needed. It was a windy cool day so I really appreciate them allowing our dogs inside for the competition.
Southern states in Statesville were very gracious host and are allowing us to come back this February. Please thank them and support them every chance you get.
